A System of Moral Science. Laurens P. Hickok, D.D., Third Edition, New York: Ivison & Phinney, 1856. By the time this third edition was published, the first and second editions were used widely in Colleges and Academies. Dr. Hickok was a pastor in Connecticut for 13 years, taught theology at Western Reserve College (1836-44) and Auburn Theological Seminary (1844-52), and was associated with Union College (Schenectady, NY) as philosophy professor (1836-68) and president (1866-8). His works, including Rational Psychology (1849), defended Christian theology through a constructive realism influenced by Kant. This work expounds on the consequence of ones actions; responsibility of self and the effects on the spiritual self. Brown cloth blind stamped in very good condition. Gilt titles on spine. Inside boards advertisements for Ivison & Phinney's Publications and there is a discreet previous owner's plate. FEP's foxing, and very slight foxing occassionally on some pages. Hardly noticeable damp stain at top inside of pages that gets smaller and smaller till it fades away. Binding is still firm and in very good conditiopn, internally very clean with no marks or inscriptions. 418pp. A System of Moral Science.
