Titi Livii Historiarum Quod Extat Cum Perpetuis Gronovii et Variorum Notis, Apud Ludovicum & Danielem Elzevirios, Amstelodami, 1664-1665. Monumental History of Rome and Roman People Gronovius Edition, by Titus Livius, published by Louis and Daniel Elzevir, Amsterdam, 1664-1665. Very early edition of this work by Titus Livius (59BC-17AD), a Roman Historian who wrote this monumental work on the history of Rome and the Roman people, "Ab Urbe Condita Libri" - Chapters from the Foundations of the City - which covered the earliest known Roman times through Livy's time during the reign of Augustus. This work is edited by J.F. Gronovius (Gronov, 1611-1671) who was a German classical scholar an critic appointed professor of rhetoric and history at Deventer in 1643 and to the Greek chair at Leiden in 1658. This work contains illustrated title pages. Bound in parchment with black lettering to spines, this antique edition is scarce. All three volumes show external wear and soiling. Vol. I has small piece missing at top of spine, ffep is loose but present, previous owners inscriptions and bookplates, ffep and rfep has handwritten notes. And although covers are in one piece, the rear board has detached at its hinge. Front hinge is holding fine. Vol. II has some loss to spine, previous owner's name and bookplate on inside board, Vol III has parchment repair to spine, and again with prior owner's name and date and bookplate on inside board. Remarkably, the bindings are tight and solid. There is occasional marginalia in Vol I. Pages are lightly aged toned and occassional light foxing. There is an Addendum and Index at the rear of each volume.
