Letters from the Aegean by James Emerson, Esq. New York J. & J. Harper 1829.
Letters from the Aegean by James Emerson, Esq. (Sir James Emerson Tennent, he was Knighted in 1845) New York J. & J. Harper 1829. Emerson describes his travels through Greece and Turkey in 1824 through "sketches of manners and scenery, which, though perhaps amusing in themselves, were properly omitted in a work, whose object was less picturesque than politial, and whose details were confined almost exclusively to the Morea and Roumeli." The "work" he was refering to being the earlier publication of "A Picture of Greece in 1825, as exhibited in the Narratives of James Emerson, Esq., Count Pecchio, and W. H. Humphreys, Esq." This book was bound in one-eighth brown leather over black and white paper boards with gilt titles on spine, all four leather corners have come off uniformly leaving white paper board, front board has detached, edges of paper boards rubbed. Binding is still very firm. Book is foxed mostly on feps and lightly in text, a stain bled through a few pages though mostly in margin area. There are probably two feps and a half title page missing. Present are One fep, three leaves of advertisements, title page, preface, and Table of Contents, pp25-248, index included. Please call or email for more information or photos.
